Rob Woodall (R-GA) and Denny Heck (D-WA) for a wide ranging conversation about their experiences serving in the House of Representatives on <u><b>Saturday, September 12, at 12:00 p.m. MDT,<\/b><\/u> during the APSA Virtual Annual Meeting.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Congressman Denny Heck<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Washington\u2019s 10th Congressional District<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/apsa2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2020\/08\/heck-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/>On November 6th, 2012, the residents of Washington\u2019s new 10th Congressional District elected Denny Heck to be the district\u2019s first member of the United States House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Since taking office, Congressman Heck&#8217;s top priorities have been creating jobs, growing our economy and keeping the American Dream alive for the middle class and those working to get into it.\u00a0He has been a vocal advocate for military families and veterans as well as for the health and natural beauty of the Puget Sound\u2019s environment.<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Heck serves on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligence.house.gov\/\">House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence<\/a>, the committee in charge of\u00a0oversight of the seventeen elements of the U.S. Government&#8217;s Intelligence Community and the Military Intelligence Program.<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Heck is also the only Member of Congress from the Pacific Northwest that serves on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/\">House Financial Services Committee<\/a>. He is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/about\/subcommittee-on-national-security-international-development-and-monetary-policy.htm\">National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy Subcommittee<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/about\/subcommittee-on-consumer-protection-and-financial-institutions.htm\">Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions Subcommittee<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/about\/subcommittee-on-housing-community-development-and-insurance.htm\">Housing, Community Development and Insurance Subcommittee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the decade prior to his election to Congress, Congressman Heck successfully grew several small businesses in Washington State. One of those small businesses, which specializes in workplace education, was started in Olympia with only two employees. Today it employs more than 300 people throughout the United States and has continued to grow in recent years. Congressman Heck was also an original investor in Real Networks, the digital entertainment company that pioneered streaming media on the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>A strong advocate of open government, in 1993 Congressman Heck co-founded TVW to provide the people of Washington State greater accessibility to their state government. TVW has grown into the nation\u2019s preeminent statewide public affairs network. While at TVW, the Congressman hosted the renowned public affairs program\u00a0Inside Olympia\u00a0and won an Emmy for a documentary he wrote and produced.<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Heck served his community in the State House of Representatives for nearly a decade. He was chosen by his colleagues to serve as Majority Leader before retiring in 1986. While in the State House, Congressman Heck was one of the prime authors of the state\u2019s historic Basic Education Act. After his time in the Legislature, he served as Chief of Staff to Governor Booth Gardner during his second term.<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Heck is a native Washingtonian and graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1973. He has been married for 44\u00a0years to Paula Fruci Heck, an educator who began her career as a teacher and retired as principal at Jefferson Middle School in Olympia. He and Paula have lived in Olympia for 33\u00a0years. They have two sons, Bob and Trey, and are grandparents of Maleah.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Congressman Rob Woodall<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Washington\u2019s 7th Congressional District<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/apsa2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2020\/08\/woodall-254x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"300\" \/>Rob Woodall serves the 7th district of GA in the U.S. House of Representatives and serves on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Committee on Rules<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">,<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/budget.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Budget Committee<\/a>, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transportation.house.gov\/\">House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/transportation.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rob was born and raised in Georgia, graduated from Marist School in 1988, attended Furman University for his undergraduate degree and received his law degree from the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Rob has served in a variety of leadership roles during his short time in Congress ranging from Chairman of the Budget and Spending Task Force, where he authored the most conservative budget to come before Congress in the last 5 years, to Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the caucus comprised of the Republican conference\u2019s most conservative Members.<\/p>\n<p>Rob is guided by the principles of freedom, and his proudest accomplishment is helping Seventh District families one at a time through casework and\u00a0creating a Congressional office that functions for the people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join retiring Reps.
