A timer displays in the upper right hand corner to show your remaining time. You cannot save a partially constructed proposal, but an alternative option would be to submit what you do have in the system. You can then come back and edit the proposal up until the deadline of Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid using the \u201cback\u201d button on your web browser.<\/li>\n<li>Each page includes its own instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Your actions are not saved until you click \u201cAccept and Continue\u201d At the bottom of each page\/step.<\/li>\n<li>After you review your submission information on the final page, click \u201cSave This Submission.\u201d\u00a0 You should receive a confirmation email.<\/li>\n<li>Please be sure you receive a confirmation email from\u00a0<strong>do_not_reply@allacademic.com<\/strong>\u00a0before exiting the system.<\/li>\n<li>You must have an APSA account to submit a proposal. If you would like to be considered for a Theme Panel, you must submit to that category first. It can\u2019t be selected as a second choice option.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can also select to submit\u00a0 a Wednesday pre-conference short course, either a full day or half day, a Lightning Round submission, or a TLC at APSA submission proposal. For more information about the new session formats and proposal options, view the \u201cProposal Options\u201d page.<\/p>\n<p>To use the <a href=\"https:\/\/convention2.allacademic.com\/one\/apsa\/apsa23\">online proposal submission system<\/a>, you need a valid e-mail address, an APSAnet.org account, and internet connectivity. To submit your proposal, log into your APSAnet.org account and access the <a href=\"https:\/\/convention2.allacademic.com\/one\/apsa\/apsa23\/\">2023 submission system<\/a>.\u00a0 If you do not have an APSAnet.org account, you can create one\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/Registration\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Submission Rules<br \/><\/u><\/strong>The following submission rules were established by the APSA Committee on the Annual Meeting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit up to two proposals. Additional proposals from the same author or organizer will not be accepted.\u00a0 It is possible for others to submit individuals to additional roles outside their two proposals, but it is recommended that an individual\u2019s name only appear on up to four proposals. This will help reduce the number of participants who need to withdraw from the program due to being over-committed in regards to the participation rule.<em> Pre-conference short courses, TLC at APSA, and\u00a0 Emerging Scholars Symposium Lightning Rounds are exempt from the two submission limit.<\/em> <em>(Please note that this does not apply to Division\/Related Group Lightning Rounds).<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Submit each proposal to no more than two divisions, related groups, or partner associations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>All proposals must be submitted by Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Confirmation of Proposal Submission<\/u><\/strong><br \/>All electronic proposal submissions will receive a unique ID number and email confirmation. Please save confirmation email and ID number for future reference.\u00a0Contact APSA at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:meeting@apsanet.org\">meeting@apsanet.org<\/a>\u00a0if you do not receive an email confirmation of your submission within 24 hours.\u00a0You can view, edit, or delete submissions until the call for papers deadline through your View Submissions section on your homepage when logged into All Academic.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Acceptance Notification<\/u><\/strong><br \/>In mid- to late March 2023, you will receive an acceptance or rejection e-mail for each proposal you submitted. If accepted for a panel or poster presentation, the email will indicate the division for which you are accepted. If your proposal is not immediately accepted for a panel or poster, you may be contacted at a later date to present if spaces become available on the program. You will receive additional detailed information regarding your panel or poster session from the division or panel chair.<\/p>\n<p>If their paper or panel presentation is accepted, individuals will be required to formally indicate their willingness to participate in the annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p><em>APSA reserves the right to select or remove panels and participants and to change the date, time, and the format of a panel or presentation at its sole discretion.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"\">Proposal Submission Options<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Individual Submissions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Individual Paper:<\/strong>\u00a0Individual paper submissions by an author(s) that, if accepted, could be incorporated into any session type, at the division chair\u2019s choosing.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Author, Non-presenting Co-author<\/p>\n<p><strong>30-Minute Paper Presentation:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Individual paper to be considered for inclusion on a Featured Paper Panel. Featured Paper Panels allow for a scholar to present his or her work for a longer period of time and to have a dedicated discussant who isn\u2019t overburdened by having to read multiple papers.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Author,\u00a0 Non-presenting Co-author<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apsa2019-apsa.ipostersessions.com\/Default.aspx?s=apsa_2019_gallery\"><strong>iPoster Presentation:<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Individual paper submission by an author(s) that\u00a0will\u00a0be incorporated into the\u00a0electronic, online poster hall. In addition to iPoster kiosks onsite at the Meeting, posters will\u00a0be available to view prior to and after the convention, providing greater opportunity for poster presenters to solicit feedback and engage in critical discussion of their research. Attendees will\u00a0be able to provide comments directly to the presenters, and would also be able to arrange for time to meet onsite at the meeting.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Author, Non-presenting Co-author<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emerging Scholars Symposium: Lightning Rounds<u><br \/><\/u><\/strong>Each scholar will have five minutes to present, followed by five minutes of feedback or Q&amp;A. This format provides a structured framework giving presenters not only an opportunity to share their research at the world\u2019s largest political science meeting, but also an opportunity to develop and enhance research communication skills through a concise presentation. The Symposium coincides with other emerging scholar events on Saturday, such as the Graduate School Information Fair and the Graduate Student Happy Hour. The three categories for individual submission under the Symposium are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Research Design:<\/strong>\u00a0Scholars will have five minutes to discuss their research design and logistics. This is followed by five minutes of feedback from discussants.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research in Five (Undergraduate students):\u00a0<\/strong>Scholars will present their research using five slides for five minutes. Following their presentation, there will be five minutes to receive feedback from discussants and hold a Q&amp;A with the audience. Panels will be held on Saturday morning to allow undergraduates to attend the Graduate School Information Fair on Saturday afternoon. Participants in this category will need to submit a faculty advisor or mentor name to APSA and will be required to complete one test run of their presentation at their college\/university. Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, will sponsor the registration fees for presenters accepted to this category.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research in Five (Graduate students):\u00a0<\/strong>Scholars will present their research using five slides for five minutes. Following their presentation, there will be five minutes to receive feedback from discussants and hold a Q&amp;A with the audience.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Full Session Submissions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Paper Panel (90 mins):<\/strong>\u00a0A full panel proposal is a fully formed panel session. You must submit all panel details, including panelist names, paper titles, and abstracts. Full paper panels can have up to five papers on a panel. One or two discussant(s) and one chair needed. All panelists must be in agreement that they will participate if the panel is selected. Division Chairs may also compile these from the submitted papers.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Author, Non-presenting Co-author, chair, discussant<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roundtable (90 mins):<\/strong>\u00a0A roundtable proposal is for a discussion format session. Participants agree on a specific topic to discuss and debate. You must submit a session title and all participant details. You may submit up to 10 participants, and all participants must be in agreement that they will participate if the panel is selected.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair<\/p>\n<p><strong>Author(s) Meet Critics (90 mins):<\/strong>\u00a0Similar to the regular roundtables, but proposal submitters and division chairs are encouraged to think creatively about incorporating works in progress to be published on the roundtable. These sessions could begin with a 10 minute presentation of a single paper that presents the next logical step in the research agenda set forth in the book, followed by a panel of critics talking about the book and about the work in progress. We also encourage division chairs to consider having author panels for articles that have appeared in refereed journals in addition to books.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caf\u00e9 (90 mins):<\/strong>\u00a0This session format incorporates a handful of topic clusters, each staffed with a moderator to discuss various outreach efforts in the field. Members will share successful engagement methods and provide guidance to colleagues on ways to apply what they\u2019ve learned in other ways. This session could be about interdisciplinary outreach, public engagement, or any variety of outreach to unique audiences.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair<\/p>\n<p><strong>Featured Paper Panel: 30-minute Paper Presentations (3 papers at 30 minutes each; 90 mins):<\/strong>\u00a0This format allows an author to present his or her work for a longer period of time and to have a dedicated discussant who isn\u2019t overburdened by having to read multiple papers. One session chair would guide the time, but each paper would have its own discussant. The sessions might follow the \u201cBrookings format,\u201d in which the discussant presents and then comments on the paper; the author would then have a chance to respond.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Author, Non-presenting Co-author, Chair, Discussant<\/p>\n<p><strong>*NEW*<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Lightning Rounds (90 mins)<\/strong>: In addition to the Lightning Rounds provided for Graduate Student Research, Undergraduate Student Research, and Research Design, Lightning Round sessions can also be submitted and\/or developed by division and related group chairs. This panel follows PechaKucha style format, where each presenter has five minutes to present their research, followed by five minutes of feedback or Q&amp;A. The format features eight presenters, two discussants, and a chair.<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Chair,\u00a0Author, Non-presenting Co-author, Discussant<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mini-conference (full day \u2013 8:00 a.m. \u2013 5:30 p.m.):<\/strong>\u00a0A full day of content devoted to a theme. The mini-conference can be in pursuit of a larger cohesive goal than traditional panels provide, such as an edited volume or an omnibus dataset. Sessions within the mini-conference might be comprised of other formats in this list.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair,\u00a0Author, Non-presenting Co-author, Discussant<\/p>\n<p><strong>Theme Panel (90 mins):<\/strong> Theme panels can be submitted by individuals during the Call for Proposals process or can be elevated up for review by division chairs.\u00a0 The program co-chairs review all panels submitted to this category and accept sessions that best explore this year\u2019s theme, <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/apsa2023\/theme-statement-2\/\">\u201cRights and Responsibilities in the Age of Mis- and Disinformation.&#8221;<\/a><br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair,\u00a0Author,\u00a0 Non-presenting Co-author, Discussant<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop (180 mins):<\/strong>\u00a0These programs allow for a deep dive in a focused environment. Workshops might be professional development focused or subfield specific, or thematically of the same spirit or accomplishing the same knowledge-sharing or learning goals. Workshops provide participants with hands-on experience and should embrace adult learning principles with clear, pre-determined learning objectives that would be included in the proposal description.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair<br \/><strong><br \/>Wednesday Pre-Conference Short Course (4 hours\/full day):\u00a0<\/strong>Pre-conference short courses take place on Wednesday, September 14, and provide diverse opportunities for professional development and offer attendees the chance to connect with scholars from a range of backgrounds. They are typically sponsored by APSA Organized Sections and other affiliated organizations.\u00a0 Wednesday Pre-Conference Short Courses do not count toward a division or related group\u2019s allocation.\u00a0<br \/><em>Associated Roles:<\/em>\u00a0Presenter, Chair<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"\">Submission Instructions<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Title &amp; Abstract<br \/><\/strong>Titles are limited to 80 characters.\u00a0Please type your title in title case, i.e., start principal words with capital letters. Do not use capital letters for prepositions, articles, or conjunctions, unless it is one word. Do not use all capital letters or all small letters in your title. Do not put quotes around the title, unless you are emphasizing terms or book titles.<\/p>\n<p>Abstracts are limited to 5000 characters. You may copy and paste your abstract from a word processing program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fields of Interest<br \/><\/strong>APSA has added a \u201cfields of interest\u201d option, where you can tag your proposal with up to three keywords. The chairs will use these keywords to find proposals that fit their panels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second Choice Division\/Related Group\u00a0<br \/><\/strong>Please select a second choice division or related group for your proposal to be considered under. This does not count as a second proposal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Format Selection<br \/><\/strong>If applicable, please indicate what type of format you\u2019d like to give this presentation\u00a0in: Panel Only; iPoster; or Panel or iPoster (wherever it is accepted).<\/p>\n<p>Please indicate that the work is your own.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selecting &amp; Adding Authors<\/strong><br \/>First, all authors must have a complimentary APSAnet.org account. If they do not, they can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/Registration?returnurl=%2fABOUT%2fAbout-APSA\">create one here<\/a>. Once they have done this, you can search for them in the database. Search by last name only. Please note that there can be up to a 24 hour delay for participants to appear in the system.<\/p>\n<p>An author search will produce a list of authors under the \u201cChoose From List of Authors\u201d table heading. To add an author, click \u201cAdd\u201d in the \u201cAction\u201d field. \u00a0If they are an author, but not planning to present and attend the conference, please click \u201cAdd Non-Presenting Co-Author.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Continue this process until you have searched and added all the applicable authors from the association database.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Instructions for Full Panel Proposals<\/strong><br \/>After you\u2019ve added your first paper and its authors, click \u201cAdd a Paper.\u201d Enter the new paper\u2019s title, abstract, presentation format, and then add the applicable authors. You can add up to five papers on a paper panel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To add chairs or discussants, search by last name under \u201cAdd Other Participants\u201d on Step 3. Chairs and discussants will also need to have an APSAnet.org account to be added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission Confirmation<\/strong><br \/>Once you have completed a submission, you will receive an automated email from do_not_reply@allacademic.com. The email will arrive within minutes of completing your submission. If you do not receive the email, it may be because of one of the following reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You did not complete the submission process properly. Go back and review the above help notes to make sure you have completed the process. Make sure that you have completed the upload paper steps.<\/li>\n<li>Your email address is incorrect. If you log in with an email account you no longer use, you will not receive email notifications. Please update your email with your association.<\/li>\n<li>Your email has very sensitive spam blockers that are blocking the incoming email. You can check your \u201cjunk\u201d email inbox, add the domain \u201c@allacademic.com\u201d to your safe list, and talk with your email provider to resolve this issue.<\/li>\n<li>You can also check online that your proposal was properly uploaded by clicking on \u201cSubmit or Edit Submission\u201d followed by \u201cPapers &amp; Posters\u201d or \u201cSessions\u201d on the right side (depending on which type of submission you are checking on). A list of your submissions will appear below by title. Click on the desired submission title. A list of your submitted proposals by title will appear at the bottom of the page. Click on the \u201cedit\u201d link next to the desired title<\/p>\n<p>The next page will display the submission summary. You can edit data using \u201cEdit\u201d (to the right of each item of session information \u2013 title, abstract, etc.). Edit the desired data, and follow the forms back to the submission summary using \u201cAccept and Continue\u201d on each page. Once all the data on the form is accurate and you are at\u00a0the final summary\/review screen, click \u201cSave This Submission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"\">Participation Rules<\/a><\/p>\n<section data-id=\"c82c5ef\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n<header>\n<p>When submitting and accepting panel and individual paper proposals, please follow the four participation rules below:<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<section data-id=\"685ec433\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n<p><strong><u>Rule 1: Participation Limitation<br \/><\/u><\/strong>Please note that participation is limited to (2) roles, with a maximum of (1) paper author role. This allows for an individual to have up to (2) non-author presenter appearances (for example, on a roundtable or Author Meets Critics panel), or (1) non-author presenter role and (1) paper author role.\u00a0 Chair and discussant roles are service roles and do not count towards this limit.<\/p>\n<p>An attendee may present only one paper at the conference, but may appear on the program as a non-presenting co-author on two other papers without exceeding participation limits.<\/p>\n<p>Paper author roles are included on full paper panels, as well as mini-conferences. These roles are listed as \u201cAuthor\u201d in the submission system and participants will upload a paper to correspond with their presentation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/apsa2023\/proposal-submission-options-2\/\">Review the full definitions of panels and roles.<\/a>\u00a0Non-author presenter roles are traditionally in roundtables, Author Meets Critics, caf\u00e9s, workshops, and mini-conferences. These roles are listed as \u201cPresenter\u201d in the submission system. Presenters do not author a paper for these appearances.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exemptions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participation as a non-presenting co-author does not count towards the author presentation limit.<\/li>\n<li>Participation as a discussant or chair does not count towards any appearance limits.<\/li>\n<li>Participation in one theme panel is allowed. If you\u2019ve met the two participation roles, an exemption is available for one theme panel.<\/li>\n<li>Participation in APSA panels\/status committee panels is exempt.<\/li>\n<li>Participating in or presenting a paper on a panel organized by Division 10: Political Science Education does not count towards these limits.<\/li>\n<li>Participation in TLC at APSA is exempt.<\/li>\n<li>Participation in an Emerging Scholars Symposium Lightning Round is exempt.\u00a0 (Please note that this does not apply to Division\/Related Group Lightning Rounds).<\/li>\n<li>Participation as a leader of a pre-conference short course does not count towards the participation limit.<\/li>\n<li>Delivery of an iPoster presentation does not count towards the participation limit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are no other exemptions from the participation limits.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Rule 2: Pre-registration<br \/><\/u><\/strong>APSA requires all program participants to pre-register by June 14, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Rule 3: Paper Delivery<\/u><\/strong><br \/>As a paper presenter, you have an important obligation to ensure that all members of your panel, especially discussants, receive your paper two (2) weeks prior to the conference, with enough time to prepare for the meeting. Papers should be uploaded to the conference system no later than\u00a0 August 17, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Rule 4: Panel Schedule<\/u><\/strong><br \/>Panels are scheduled in time slots beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday and concluding at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
