- Qualified applicants include:<\/strong>\u00a0U.S. graduate students, international graduate students studying in the U.S., unemployed members, international scholars, community college faculty, contingent faculty, unemployed faculty, APSA Status Committee members, and any faculty member who has been furloughed or experienced a reduction in available research funds from their college or university.<\/li>\n
- Travel grants\u00a0can cover<\/strong> costs\u00a0such as mileage for attendees who travel to association events\u00a0by car or plane tickets for attendees who arrive by air.\u00a0 Grants can also cover hotels, meals, and conference\u00a0related cab fare.<\/li>\n
- First time attendees<\/strong> and those on the job market or tenure track will receive priority consideration.\u00a0 All grant recipients will be reimbursed for expenses after the conclusion of the relevant association event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Eligibility requirements, as well as details on what the travel grant covers and does not cover, are below.<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Eligibility<\/a><\/p>\n
To be eligible for grant, you must:<\/p>\n
- \n
- Maintain your APSA membership<\/strong>\u00a0through the date of the conference for which you are receiving travel grant funding<\/li>\n
- Reside more than 30 miles<\/strong>\u00a0from the conference location \u2013 you are not eligible for a travel grant if you live within 30 miles of the conference\u00a0site<\/li>\n
- Submit all itemized receipts for expenses<\/strong>, an APSA-provided expense form, and your attendance badge as proof of attendance\n
- \n
- APSA will not cover expenses that are not submitted without an itemized receipt<\/strong><\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
To accept the grant, APSA requires that\u00a0all recipients complete and return a W-9 or W-8BEN tax form.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Travel Grant Use<\/a><\/p>\n

A travel grant from APSA can cover the following costs:<\/p>\n

- Ticket and cab fare:\u00a0<\/strong>Economy bus, train, and plane tickets are covered, conference related cab fare around the conference city is also covered<\/li>\n
- Mileage:\u00a0<\/strong>Mileage to the conference is reimbursable with a document showing the distance of your trip, should you travel to the conference by car\n
- \n
- Mileage is reimbursable at the 2023\u00a0IRS standard mileage of 65.5\u00a0cents per mile traveled<\/li>\n
- You must also demonstrate that\u00a0<\/strong><\/u>the cost of\u00a0your mileage is less than the cost of a flight<\/strong><\/u><\/li>\n
- As proof, APSA accepts a printed copy of the cost of a flight to the conference city on the days that you plan to travel and\u00a0printed directions from sites like Google Maps\u00a0as documentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
- Hotels:\u00a0<\/strong>The cost\u00a0of a stay in a hotel, hostel, or other rented lodging such as Airbnb during the conference is covered<\/li>\n
- Meals:\u00a0<\/strong>The cost of meals during the conference is covered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
An APSA travel grant\u00a0does not<\/strong>, however, cover any of the following costs:<\/p>\n

- Business or first-class tickets<\/strong><\/li>\n
- Rental cars<\/strong><\/li>\n
- Gasoline:\u00a0<\/strong>Receipts for gas are not accepted \u2013 for APSA to cover the cost\u00a0of a car trip to the conference, you must provide your mileage using the instructions above<\/li>\n
- Alcohol<\/strong><\/li>\n
- Registration or APSA Membership:\u00a0<\/strong>APSA cannot apply grant funds toward the cost of a membership or registration for the Annual Meeting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
