Harassment of colleagues, students, or other conference participants undermines the principle of equity at the heart of these professional fora and is inconsistent with the principles of free inquiry and free expression. Consequently, harassment is considered by APSA to be a serious form of professional misconduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following Anti-Harassment Policy outlines expectations for all those who attend or participate in any APSA meetings or events. It reminds APSA meeting participants that all professional academic ethics and norms apply as standards of behavior and interaction at these meetings. The Anti-Harassment Policy can also be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/ABOUT\/Governance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">APSA Governance Documents page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div >\n        <div class=\" plethoraplugins-tabs-container plethoraplugins-tabs-container--vertical plethoraplugins-theme__minimal plethoraplugins-theme__tabby \" \n\t\t\tdata-pds-tabs--layout=\"vertical\"  \n\t\t\tdata-pds-tabs--theme=\"tabby\"  \n\t\t\tdata-pds-tabs--mobile-breakpoint-forced=\"\"\n\t\t\t data-pds-tabs--accordion-icon-type=\"\" data-pds-tabs--accordion-icon=\"true\"  data-pds-tabs--accordion-icon-size=\"\"  data-pds-tabs--accordion-heading-level=\"h3\" data-pds-tabs--accordion-auto-close=\"true\" >\n            <div class=\"plethoraplugins-sidenavjump\" style=\"flex-basis: 25%\" >\n              <ul><li>\n                        <a \n                                href=\"#purpose\"\n                                class=\" active\" \n                            >\n                            <span>Purpose<\/span>\n                        <\/a>\n                    <\/li><li>\n                        <a \n                                href=\"#expected_behavior\"\n                                class=\"\" \n                            >\n                            <span>Expected Behavior<\/span>\n                        <\/a>\n                    <\/li><li>\n                        <a \n                                href=\"#unacceptable_behavior\"\n                                class=\"\" \n                            >\n                            <span>Unacceptable Behavior<\/span>\n                        <\/a>\n                    <\/li><li>\n                        <a \n                                href=\"#procedures_for_violations\"\n                                class=\"\" \n                            >\n                            <span>Procedures for Violations<\/span>\n                        <\/a>\n                    <\/li><\/ul>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"plethoraplugins-tabs--content plethoraplugins-sidenavjump-content\" style=\"flex-basis: 75%\">\n                \n<div class=\"\"  data-pds-tabs--accordion-initially-open=\"false\" >\n\n<p>APSA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming conference environment for all participants, regardless of actual or perceived gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, age, or religion. \u201cParticipant\u201d in this policy refers to anyone present at APSA meetings, including staff, contractors, vendors, exhibitors, venue staff, APSA members, and all other attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"\"  data-pds-tabs--accordion-initially-open=\"false\" >\n\n<p>All participants at APSA meetings are expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Abide by this Anti-Harassment Policy in all meeting venues including ancillary events and official and unofficial social gatherings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abide by the norms of professional respect that are necessary to promote the conditions for free academic interchange.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If witnessing potential harm to a conference participant, be proactive in helping to mitigate or avoid that harm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alert conference or security personnel if you see a situation in which someone might be in imminent physical danger.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"\"  data-pds-tabs--accordion-initially-open=\"false\" >\n\n<p>Unacceptable behavior includes but is not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Persistent and unwelcome solicitation of emotional or physical intimacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Persistent and unwelcome solicitation of emotional or physical intimacy accompanied by real or implied threat of professional harm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intimidating, harassing, abusive, derogatory, or demeaning speech or actions by any participant in an APSA meeting and\/or at any related event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prejudicial actions or comments related to actual or perceived gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, age, or religion that coerce others, foment broad hostility, or otherwise undermine professional equity or the principles of free academic exchange.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Harassing photography or recording.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustained disruption of talks or other events.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physical assault (including unwelcome touch or groping).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Real or implied threat of physical harm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"\"  data-pds-tabs--accordion-initially-open=\"false\" >\n\n<p>APSA\u2019s procedures for addressing violations of the Anti-Harassment Policy currently apply to all attendees at the APSA Annual Meeting &amp; Exhibition and the APSA International Workshops, for the duration of the Annual Meeting or the particular workshop. Any attendee of the APSA Annual Meeting &amp; Exhibition, Virtual Research Meeting, International Workshops, or other APSA events may pursue a complaint of sexual harassment regarding an incident that has occurred within the last two years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/Portals\/54\/diversity%20and%20inclusion%20prgms\/sexual%20harassment%20resources\/FINAL%20Sexual%20Harass.%20Procedures%20Amended%205_7_18.pdf?ver=2018-05-07-093316-170\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Procedures for Violations<\/u><\/a> of the Sexual Harassment Provisions document.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/ombuds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>APSA Meetings Ombuds<\/u><\/a> resource is also available to all meeting attendees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        \n    <\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:48px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>APSA RESPECT Campaign<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/respect\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>APSA RESPECT Campaign<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;encourages \u201cprofessional respect\u201d by and towards all APSA Meeting attendees and participants at all times. RESPECT stands for&nbsp;<strong>R<\/strong>espectful,&nbsp;<strong>E<\/strong>quitable,&nbsp;<strong>S<\/strong>afe,&nbsp;<strong>P<\/strong>rofessional, and&nbsp;<strong>E<\/strong>thical&nbsp;<strong>C<\/strong>onduct&nbsp;<strong>T<\/strong>owards All. The APSA Sexual Harassment Survey Report and Anti-Harassment Policy (Code of Conduct) address the importance of facilitating a climate of respect at the all APSA Meetings.
