Co-leading the the program were Teri L. Caraway (University of Minnesota), Edmund W. Cheng (City University of Hong Kong), Jai Kwan Jung (Korea University), and Teresa Wright (California State University-Long Beach). Seventeen Ph-D students and early-career scholars attended as fellows, representing universities across East and Southeast Asia, Europe, as well as the United States.<\/p>\n<p>While the workshop was initially slated to be held in-person, APSA was forced to transition the workshop to a two-part virtual program due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through an assigned reading list, the online winter program (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/Portals\/54\/intlprgms\/2020%20Asia%20Workshop%20Schedule%20and%20Readings.pdf?ver=euW177nRKe5Klb3jtjNc6A%3d%3d&amp;timestamp=1637700824591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see schedule and syllabus<\/a>) examined the conditions under which popular contention erupts and evolves, shapes political institutions, produces political changes, or solidifies the status quo. Co-leaders also provided preliminary feedback on fellow&#8217;s research papers.
