The Japan-America Women Political Scientists (JAWS) Symposium\u00a0is a reoccurring program that promotes scholarly exchange between Japan and the US, supports the advancement of women in the profession of political science, and highlights research on issues of contemporary importance in both the US and Japan. As a professional network of women political scientists, the JAWS community bridges national boundaries and produces research of significant value to teaching and public affairs. In partnership with the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre<\/a> (SSEAC), APSA\u00a0organized a full-day professional development workshop\u00a0at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. The workshop was held just prior to the International Political Science Association’s (IPSA) 2018 World Congress of Political Science, and attended by\u00a015 PhD students, post-doctoral scholars, and early-career faculty who conduct political science research related to Southeast Asia. Focusing on how to work through some of the difficult decisions associated with pitching a research article and structuring a paper for publication, the program included both panel discussions and interactive sessions (see the schedule.pdf<\/a>). Attendees discussed different\u00a0elements of the publishing process, revised their own research abstracts, and analyzed examples of reviewer feedback. The workshop\u00a0also included discussion on broader career issues, such as grant writing, book publishing, and networking. Facilitating the program were Nicole Curato (University of Canberra), Elisabeth Kramer (University of Sydney), Lee Morgenbesser (Griffith University), and Garry Rodan (Murdoch University).<\/p>\n
\nIn partnership with the U.S.-Korea Institute at SAIS (USKI),\u00a0APSA held a 2-day\u00a0professional development seminar at the The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, in Washington, DC. Attended by 9 early-career scholars conducting research on Korea or East Asian politics, the seminar offered a forum to discuss and receive critical feedback on article-length manuscripts in progress. In addition to focused discussions of each paper, the seminar included guest speakers on current research and professional development topics (see the schedule.pdf<\/a>). Facilitating the event were Erin Aeran Chung (Johns Hopkins University), Hyung-baeg Im (Korea University), and Jan H.
