This involves communicating with journal editors and&nbsp;authors under the supervision of APSA staff. This work is shared via APSA\u2019s blog, politicalsciencenow.com, as well as on APSA social media accounts.&nbsp;Some of fellows\u2019 work will also be published in APSA member magazine,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/political-science-today\">Political Science Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Public Scholarship Program was created in collaboration with the APSA Presidential Task Force for New Partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Fellows\u2019 Work<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/politicalsciencenow.com\/category\/public-scholarship-program\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"528\" height=\"508\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/centennialcenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2024\/03\/PE-screenshot.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3302\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/centennialcenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2024\/03\/PE-screenshot.png 528w, https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/centennialcenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2024\/03\/PE-screenshot-300x289.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our fellows write public-facing, accessible summaries of cutting-edge political science research published in the APSA\u2019s leading peer-reviewed research journal,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/american-political-science-review\"><em>American Political Science Review.<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/politicalsciencenow.com\/category\/public-scholarship-program\/\">Recent articles<\/a>&nbsp;covered include work on politicians\u2019 use of misinformation to bolster political support, and the effects of hurricanes on attitudes about climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read all of our fellows\u2019 posts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/politicalsciencenow.com\/category\/public-scholarship-program\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Fellowship:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<p><strong>Timing:<\/strong>\u00a0Fellows participate in a 12-month fellowship beginning with a virtual orientation in the Summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support:<\/strong>\u00a0Fellows will receive a $2,000 stipend to support their work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Training:<\/strong>\u00a0The Public Scholarship workshop features training by APSA staff, opportunities to workshop public scholarship, and presentations from experts in political science and public scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>We welcome doctoral students in political science who have completed their first year of graduate work by the beginning of the fellowship period. Among the criteria for selection are applicant\u2019s interests and investment in public scholarship, as well as ability to write for a general audience. Anyone with interest in public scholarship is encouraged to apply, whether or not that interest is explicit in their existing work.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application Materials:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>CV (2 pages max.): Please include contact information, academic department, relevant employment and service history, and academic accomplishments. Applicants who have published work in popular magazines, newspapers, or blogs (e.g. the Duck of Minerva, The Monkey Cage) are encouraged to list those citations in addition to any scholarly publications.<\/li>\n<li>Statement of Interest: 1 page single-spaced max at least 11-point font.<\/li>\n<li>Writing Sample: A sample of writing about political science for a public audience (3 single-spaced pages max, at least 11-point font). This can include previously published work in popular outlets. In place of an existing writing sample, applicants may also write a summary of a recent\u00a0<em>APSR\u00a0<\/em>article. Summaries should be a maximum of 600 words.
