The APSA Committee on the Status of Community Colleges in the Profession works to create an inclusive culture for community college faculty within the profession, increase community college faculty membership, build relationships across higher education institutions, and recommend programming to address the unique needs of community college faculty.
Although community college faculty and instructors perhaps provide political science and civic education to more undergraduates than any other institutional-level in the American higher education system, they do not make up a large portion of APSA membership. Nor are their voices always heard or represented in decision-making bodies, meaning that discipline-wide policies and priorities may not affect community college’s concerns.
The APSA committee on the Status of Community Colleges in the Profession was formed in 2017 to learn more about the varied experiences of community college political science faculty, communicate with APSA leadership about community college issues, and develop resources to help community college instructors navigate the discipline.
Our APSA microsite celebrates our progress, builds community, & shares community college specific resources and tools.
