The aim of this study is to highlight students preconceptions about Indigenous politics relative to the political science discipline, and what affect such learning has had on their understandings of how Indigenous people govern and mobilize in pursuit of self-determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bios:<br><\/strong>Dr. Julie Ballangarry is a proud Gumbaynggirr\/Dunghutti woman and Lecturer in Political Science and Indigenous Politics at the School of Government and International Relations at Griffith University, Australia. Her research focuses on Indigenous rights and recognition in policy, with particular expertise in First Nations foreign policy, First Nations gender justice, reconciliation, and Indigenous education. Julie&#8217;s work bridges academic praxis, enabling her advocate effectively at both grassroots and institutional levels. She is recognised as an emerging leader whose work is grounded in truth-telling, relational accountability and Indigenous sovereignty. Julie is committed to amplifying Indigenous voices, advancing justice and fostering meaningful relationships that drive transformative change within and beyond academic spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bartholomew&nbsp;Stanford is a Senior Lecturer in Indigenous Studies at James Cook University, based in the Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC). A Torres Strait Islander and descendent of the Mosby family from Masig, his research explores Indigenous\/settler relations with a focus on land rights, agreement-making, Indigenous politics, governance, and knowledges. He holds a PhD from the School of Government and International Relations at Griffith University\u2014one of Australia&#8217;s leading political science departments.
