(Book reviews, review essays, and chapters published in edited volumes are not eligible).<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>Career Achievement Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Career Achievement Award given annually\u00a0to a political scientist who has made a significant lifetime contribution to the study of politics and public policies in the American states.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>Emerging Scholar Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This annual award is given to the top scholar in the field of state politics and policy who is within 10 years of earning a PhD.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Christopher Z. Mooney Best Dissertation Prize<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>This award is given for the best dissertation in American state politics and policy completed during the previous calendar year. The winner receives a plaque and $1000.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>Mac Jewell Enduring Contribution Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>This award is given to the author(s) of a political science book or article on the subject of U.S. state politics or policy published at least 10 years prior to the award being bestowed that stands as an enduring contribution to the literature.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>State Politics and Policy Quarterly (SPPQ) Best Paper Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The State Politics and Policy Award is given for the best paper on state politics and policy presented at any professional meeting in the previous calendar year.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Best Graduate Student Paper Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The State Politics and Policy Award is given for the best paper on state politics and policy written solely by graduate student authors and presented at any professional meeting in the previous calendar year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>Virginia Gray Book Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>To be awarded annually to the best political science book published on the subject of U.S. state politics or policy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Note<\/em>: As the Gray award moves from a three-year to one-year eligibility window, the 2026 award will be given to books with copyright dates of 2023, 2024, and 2025. Thus, books published in 2023 will have 3 years of eligibility, books published in 2024 will have 2 years of eligibility, and books published in 2025 (and thereafter) will be eligible for one year.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>Service Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Service\u00a0Award\u00a0recognizes\u00a0service\u00a0to the section in the literal sense, as in\u00a0service\u00a0on committees\u00a0and\u00a0in leadership positions, as well as\u00a0service\u00a0within the Section, as in\u00a0service\u00a0to the profession within the field of\u00a0state politics and policy\u00a0in the form of archiving data, promoting infrastructure, representing the profession in the media, etc.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Carsey Awards<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>These awards are given to support graduate student participation in the State Politics and Policy Conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2026, section awards will be presented at the State Politics &amp; Policy Conference in Chicago.
