{"id":509,"date":"2025-03-04T20:04:39","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T20:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/vrm2025\/?page_id=509"},"modified":"2025-04-10T08:09:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T08:09:58","slug":"participation-tips-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/vrm2025\/participation-tips-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Participation Tips &amp; Guidelines\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We\u2019re excited to welcome you to our second annual virtual conference, taking place online on&nbsp;<strong>Thursday, April 10&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Friday, April 11! <\/strong>Before attending the 2025 APSA Virtual Research Meeting, please be sure to review the participation tips, resources, and guidelines below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If attending or participating in the 2025 APSA Virtual Research Meeting, please note the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Registration Required<\/strong>: All attendees <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/vrm2025\/registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>must be registered<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to view session details and access Zoom links.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upload Your Paper<\/strong>: Authors should&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/vrm2025\/upload-your-paper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>upload their paper<\/strong><\/a> to the submission system and share it with their discussant(s) and fellow panelists at least two (2) weeks before the virtual meeting. This allows panelists to review your work in advance and helps attendees decide which sessions to attend.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Authors are also encouraged to upload their paper to <a href=\"https:\/\/preprints.apsanet.org\/engage\/apsa\/event-details\/67d97314fa469535b9aac352\"><strong>APSA Preprints<\/strong><\/a>, APSA\u2019s free pre-publication platform for early research outputs in political science and related disciplines. Uploading your paper to APSA Preprints allows you to share your work with peers, obtain a DOI, gather feedback, track metrics, and prepare for journal submission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research Group participants should contact their workshop organizer(s) directly to share any documents or materials in advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Code of Conduct<\/strong>: All attendees should take a moment to review the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/vrm2025\/code-of-conduct\/\">APSA Code of Conduct<\/a> <\/strong>prior to the virtual meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zoom Hosts &amp; Session Access<\/strong>: Panel chairs and Research Group organizers will serve as Zoom hosts for their sessions. An APSA staff member will join each Zoom room 10\u201315 minutes before the scheduled start time to assign hosting permissions. If a chair is unavailable, the host role will be assigned to a discussant or panelist. Chairs, discussants, and Research Group organizers should log in 10\u201315 minutes early to ensure the session has a host and begins on time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PowerPoint Presentation<\/strong>: If you plan to use slides during your presentation, be sure they are prepared in advance.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/apsavrmppt\"><strong>Download the PowerPoint template here. <\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Time Zone &amp; Session Time<\/strong>: Confirm the date and time of your session(s) in advance, especially if you\u2019ll be participating from outside the U.S. Eastern Time Zone. If you\u2019d like to serve on a specific panel or focus on a particular topic, please indicate that on your form. <br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/apsa.wufoo.com\/forms\/2025-virtual-research-meeting-volunteer-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Volunteer to be a chair or discussant \u00bb<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Download the Virtual Participant Guide<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The participant guide includes information on navigating and joining panel sessions, virtual presentation tips, and what to expect before and during the online meeting. <br><br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/apsavrm-participantguide\">Download the Virtual Participant Guide \u00bb<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accessing the Virtual Platform<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All virtual panels, Research Group workshops, and keynote sessions will be accessible through the All Academic <a href=\"https:\/\/convention2.allacademic.com\/one\/apsa\/vrm25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>online program<\/strong><\/a>. To log in, click \u201cSign In\u201d on the left-side menu of the program homepage and enter your&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/apsanet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>MyAPSA<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;username and password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/convention2.allacademic.com\/one\/apsa\/vrm25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Test your APSA credentials<\/strong><\/a> before the meeting to ensure you can access the platform without issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To view session details, participant contact information, and Zoom links, you must be <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.apsanet.org\/vrm2025\/registration\/\"><strong>registered<\/strong><\/a> for the meeting and logged into the <a href=\"https:\/\/convention2.allacademic.com\/one\/apsa\/vrm25\/\"><strong>online program<\/strong><\/a>. Once signed in, use the search tools to find sessions. Attendees can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adjust the program to your local time zone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search by session name or keyword<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filter by session type, date, time, and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on a session to view full details. If a chair is not available, a discussant or panelist will be made host. Chairs, discussants, and Research Group organizers should join 10\u201315 minutes early to confirm they have no technical issues and ensure the session begins on time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Silence or power off your phone and other devices.&nbsp;Mute your microphone when not speaking to reduce background noise and audio feedback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure your camera is at eye level and look into the camera when speaking to maintain eye contact with the audience. If delivering formal remarks, rehearse on camera to review your delivery.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019re presenting, be sure to have water nearby.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid busy or brightly patterned backgrounds and clothing.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep any slides simple and focused; they should complement your talk, not replace it.
