ICER trains political scientists at all career stages in best practices for conducting academically rigorous, mutually beneficial scholarship in collaboration with communities, organizations, and agencies. ICER is intended for advanced graduate students in political science and political scientists at any stage of their careers who wish to shift to using civically engaged research.
The 2026 Institute will be held in-person at UCLA in Los Angeles, CA from July 13-16, 2026

This year, the Institute for Civically Engaged Research will once again be hosted in partnership by the American Political Science Association and the Center for Community Engagement at the University of California, Los Angeles, with generous support from the Haynes Foundation. From 2018 to 2024, the institute was held in collaboration with Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, supported by the Ivywood Foundation.
