APSA’s 2026 Institute for Civically Engaged Research (ICER)
ICER trains political scientists at all career stages in best practices for conducting academically rigorous, mutually beneficial scholarship in collaboration with communities, organizations, and agencies. ICER is intended for advanced graduate students in political science and political scientists at any stage of their careers who wish to shift to using civically engaged research.
The 2026 Institute will be held in-person at UCLA in Los Angeles, CA from July 13-16, 2026

This year, the Institute for Civically Engaged Research will be hosted through a partnership between the American Political Science Association, The Ralph J. Bunche Center, and the Center for Community Engagement at the University of California, Los Angeles. The institute is made possible through the generous support of the Haynes Foundation and The Ralph J. Bunche Center. From 2018 to 2024, the institute was held in collaboration with Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, with support from the Ivywood Foundation.
