Seeking Nominations for new member for the APSA Religion and Politics Section Executive Committee

Dear Colleagues, the APSA Religion and Politics section is seeking nominations to fill three positions on the section’s Executive Committee. Committee members are crucial to the running of the section and collectively make decisions about section activities, administration, future directions, and section awards and grants. They serve for a two-year term. Executive Committee membership is typically required by section rules for holding other section leadership positions including Chair, Chair-Elect and Treasurer.

You may nominate yourself or a colleague. As a reminder, if you are nominating a colleague, please make sure that you have their consent before nomination, and CC them on the nomination email. To nominate yourself or a colleague, please forward a candidate’s short biography (no more than 150 words), including the candidate’s institutional affiliation, to apsa.religion.politics@gmail.com by Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Candidates will then participate in an online election in which all section members vote. The top three vote-getting candidates will assume the three vacant positions. We encourage all faculty members to apply as this  is a great way of serving the sub-field and making a difference in the profession.

Help Wanted: Communications Coordinator

The Religion and Politics Section is calling for nominations, including self-nominations, for the Communications Coordinator position. The Communications Coordinator oversees, coordinates, and updates the content of the section website and manages the section correspondence and social media outreach in coordination with the other members of the Executive Committee. The Communications Coordinator is an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee, and must be a member of the section once appointed.

The section currently uses WordPress, X, and Bluesky in addition to APSA Connect, so any experience with those applications would be considered a plus. If you are interested in serving the section in this capacity, please send a short bio (150 words max) to the section chair, Vineeta Yadav at vyadav@psu.edu), by August 1.

If you have any questions about the position, contact Brooklyn Walker (brooklyn.evann.walker@gmail.com), the current Communications Coordinator.

Religion and Politics is now on Bluesky

The Religion and Politics section now has a presence on Bluesky at @apsareligion.bsky.social. Going forward, we will use both our X and Bluesky social media accounts to post announcements.

As a service to our members, we are creating a Starter Pack on Bluesky. If you would like to be included, please visit our Bluesky account and reply to our initial post with your Bluesky handle.
