Section 56 Nationalism and Politics

Welcome to the Nationalism and Politics organized section of the American Political Science Association. The section aims to bring together scholars at all career stages working on myriad facets of nationalism in politics, including related sections working on nationalism. We bring together scholars working on different regions, using varying methodologies and asking a range of substantively important questions about the study of nationalism.  The section supports and encourages diversity in research and teaching approaches. The Nationalism and Politics section has five main goals:

1. To provide an institutionalized space to foster the community of political scientists interested in studying and teaching nationalism;

2. To bridge the geographical and disciplinary segmentation in the study of nationalism that impedes a coherent and joined-up conversation;

3. To sponsor Annual Meeting panels, potentially with other sections, related to the study of nationalism and the looks to support scholarship and teaching of nationalism and politics;

4. To recognise quality scholarship in the study of nationalism and politics with awards.

5. To mentor younger scholars working on the politics of nationalism.
