Notice of 2025 Business Meeting and Reception

Please join us for our Annual Business Meeting and Reception, to be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Palate Kitchen, which is located at 848 West Hastings Street.

The business meeting is scheduled to take place between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. PT. You will find the meeting agenda here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1789ew1KUQrSZCwWxhHAbsR_5riueehQxYmYEn11jMOw. Should you wish to add an agenda item, please feel free to let the executive know by September 8.

The reception will follow the business meeting and will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT. We will be honouring our section award winners, including:

  • Robert Vipond, winner of the 2025 Mildred A. Schwartz Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Kim Pernell, winner of the 2025 Seymour Martin Lipset Best Book Award
  • Heather Millar, honourable mention for the 2025 Seymour Martin Lipset Best Book Award

Complimentary drinks and a delicious assortment of hors d’oeuvres will be provided courtesy of the evening’s sponsor, Vox Pop Labs

If possible, we kindly ask that you register in advance so we can provide the venue with proper estimates for food and beverage orders. Please note that the event is only open to registered members of the Canadian Politics section. If you are not currently a section member you can register for only $10 for regular members and free for graduate students at https://members.apsanet.org/Membership/Add-a-Section. Again, we encourage you to register in advance, but will accept registrations at the door.

Call for nominations: 2025 Mildred A. Schwartz Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Political Science Association Section for Canadian Politics is pleased to call for nominations for the 2025 Mildred A. Schwartz Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 2025 Selection Committee includes:

To nominate someone for this award, please send a detailed nomination letter and the CV of the nominee to the entire committee and the Section Chair by July 18, 2025.

Call for nominations: 2025 Seymour Martin Lipset Best Book Award

The American Political Science Association Section for Canadian Politics is pleased to call for nominations for the 2025 Seymour Martin Lipset Best Book Award.

Books dealing with Canadian politics—or incorporating Canada as a significant case in a comparative political analysis—that were published between 2023 and 2025 are eligible for consideration. Edited collections are not eligible.

The 2025 Selection Committee includes:
