APSA provides travel grants to assist in conference costs and attendance, as well as teaching and learning awards that recognize the scholarship in teaching within the political science education at the 2025 APSA Teaching & Learning Conference in Alexandria, VA.

Michael Brintall Teaching & Learning Award
Application Deadline: November 13, 2024
The Brintnall Award supports faculty attendance at the APSA Teaching and Learning Conference. The award is named in honor of former APSA Executive Director, Michael Brintnall, who was deeply committed to advancing the scholarship of teaching and learning in the discipline.
Eligibility: Contingent faculty, non-tenure track faculty, and faculty whose departments do not provide travel support are particularly encouraged to apply. Priority consideration is given to an applicant that: is presenting at the conference, is a first-time attendee, and on the lowest level of the income scale for APSA membership. Applications should include a CV and 1 – 2 page personal statement.
The award carries a cash prize of $300.
APSA Award for Teaching Innovation
Application Deadline: November 13, 2024
The APSA Award for Teaching Innovation honors a wide range of new directions in teaching.
Eligibility: Self-nominations are accepted. Nominees do not have to be members of APSA, affiliated with an institution in the United States, or an American citizen in order to be considered for an award. Examples of eligible nominations include a professor that used an innovative course syllabus or a new multimedia approach to reaching students. All submissions should include:
- Personal statement (written by the nominee) detailing the teaching innovation, its impact, and why this innovation deserves this honor.
- Letter of nomination from nominating faculty (if relevant), briefly summarizing the teaching innovation and its impact, and explaining why it deserves this honor
- Other supporting documents of nominee and/or nominator’s choosing.
The award carries a cash prize of $500.
Travel Grant Applications

APSA is pleased to provide travel grants to assist scholars in attending the 2025 APSA Teaching & Learning Conference in Alexandria, VA.
Eligibility: All attendees are eligible; however, first-time attendees, graduate students, unemployed members, international scholars, community college faculty, and contingent faculty will be prioritized, as will meeting presenters.
