APSA is proud to provide LGBTQ+ members the following resources during the annual meeting. LGBTQ+ individuals and allies are invited to participate in APSA’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first queer politics paper presented at an annual meeting. This celebration includes a two-day mini-conference, reception, and invitation luncheon honoring the 1973 paper author, Kenneth Sherrill.
Kenneth Sherrill, professor emeritus at Hunter College, City University of New York, presented at the 1973 annual meeting the paper, “Leaders in the Gay Activist Movement: The Problem of Finding the Followers.” More information about Ken’s professional and political achievements are available in the August 2023 issue of Political Science Today.
Two awards bear Sherrill’s name. To nominate a dissertation proposal examining LGBTQ+ politics for the Kenneth Sherril Prize, visit here>> To contribute to this prize in his honor, visit here>> For completed dissertations, nominate an LGBTQ+ study for the Kenneth Sherrill Best Dissertation Award.
